Wow have we got an issue for
you this time! We may be coming
in on the tail end of LGBT history
month, but we're crammed full
of history - Rebecca Jennings,
author of A Lesbian History of
Britain, writes about romantic
friendships, and we review her
book.
We feature historical figures such
as Ethel Smyth and Jane Rule,
and more local figures such as
Pauline Farnham, founder of
Border Women.
And, if that isn’t enough, we
have an exclusive interview with
Ann Bannon, the Queen of
Lesbian Pulp Fiction.

I am excited to announce the
first Velvet Flash Fiction
Competition, run in conjunction
with Chroma: A Queer Literary
Journal. The competition will be
judged by Stella Duffy and along
with the top prize of £200 there
will be signed books by your
favourite Velvet writers up for
grabs, so get writing!

Interview with Ann Bannon
 | "There were plenty of scenes
where my randy young lesbians could wrap their arms
around each other and take off for the moon."
Ann Bannon, the undisputed Queen of Lesbian Pulp Fiction, spoke
exclusively to Velvet (VIA EMAIL)
"I’m still surprised to find that after fifty years, I’m an
overnight success! And it’s a minor miracle that my books
have remained in print since they were first published, starting in 1957."

Lesbian History
 |
Rebecca Jennings author of A Lesbian History of Britain, shares thoughts
on The Romantic Friendship Debate: Intense friendship or sexual relationship?
"...pure friendship came to be praised as an ideal for women and women’s friendships were celebrated as faithful and beautiful, in contrast to the quick-burning but transitory flame of heterosexual passion." |

Uh Huh Her

velvet checks out new indie pop band Uh Huh Her
Leisha Hailey (Alice in The L-Word) and Camila Grey are "...not only serious about their music, but they have a lot of fun with it too."
