ISSUE 17 OUT SOON!
Flash Fiction CompetitionDeadline 1st September
Velvet Magazine, the arts and literature magazine for lesbian women, was started in August 2004 to fill the gap for more mature, non-scene lesbians. It aims to be more ‘intellectual’ and issue based than what’s otherwise on the market, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously. Humour, particularly from regular columnist V G Lee is always included, as are articles dealing with lesbian specific issues, book and film reviews, parenting, health issues, poetry and short fiction.
But we’re not exclusive – we have straight female readers, gay male readers, bisexuals, transsexuals…. There’s something for everyone who likes a good read and isn’t narrow minded.
Currently quarterly, the A4-sized, full colour issues of Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter come out on the last Friday of February, May, August, and November.
Well known lesbian writers previously interviewed in Velvet include: Sarah Waters, Sandi Toksvig, Louise Welsh and Stella Duffy.
